Gardening Tips
Care for your Hanging Baskets
Match your flowering hanging basket's location with it's light and heat tolerance for
best results. Most flowering hanging baskets will continue
to flower in shade or partial shade, however some will
not tolerate the heat and dryness of all-day sunlight.
-Ivy and zonal geraniums tolerate the brightest and
hottest conditions and occasional drying out.
-Petunias also appreciate a sunny location.
-Impatiens and begonias keep the shadiest spots bright
but may not hold up in high light and heat.
-Fuchsia do best in a spot that gets some shade during
the middle of the day.
Water before wilting occurs. A
10 inch diameter pot uses 16 to 32 ounces of water per
day. Properly watered, your plant should last 2 to 4
days between watering.
If the basket dries out you may need to water the basket
again in 15 minutes or soak it in a bucket of water
for 5 to 10 minutes to re-moisten all the soil. After
drying out, a single watering may merely run down the
inside of the pot and out the drain hole.
